Nancy Ryles Elementary School Reviews

My three children attended Nancy Ryles during our two years in Oregon. The teachers went above and beyond the call of duty and really tried to meet each child's individual needs. There was good parent/teacher communication and my input was valued. Parent participation at the school is welcome. There were many additional programs which enriched the children's learning such as fitness (Miles for Smiles), science (school wide science fair), art (art literacy), geography (passport club), etc. I truly felt that my children left Nancy Ryles more prepared for further education, with greater social skills and moral integrity.

My children have attended Nancy Ryles for the past 5 years, and I have been consistently happy with the quality of education and the welcoming atmosphere at the school. Parent involvement is high, and both staff and volunteers work hard to create a positive learning environment where all students are challenged according to their ability.

As far as academics Nancy Ryles like other schools in the district exceeds expectations. However, our experience at this school has been unfavorable for several reasons. A good deal of the parents, and parent-led groups, are clique-ish. It is admirable that the parent involvement is high, however, there's no other way to say it other than many of the moms act like sorority girls with the gossip and bickering amongst each other. The teachers are either loved or hated which isn't so uncommon really. The focus on physical health is admirable, but better music and arts programs would be appreciated as well. I believe the parents and staff feel they have set a high standard untouchable by other schools, when in fact the reputation this school is getting is 'you must succeed - or else'. In their quest to 'be the best', I believe they've lost sight of the children's feelings.

My daughter was one of Nancy Ryles students for more than two years (2000 and 2001). I can say that the professional leadership and professional teachers that the school enjoys has made it one of the most distinguished public schools in the area. Currently I am living overseas but I can proudly say that whenever I have the chance to go back to the US I won't hesitate bringing my children back to Nancy Ryles.

Nancy Ryles is a fabulous school. With great teachers and staff. My children have been attending for the last 2 years. The principle, teachers, and office staff are excellent. They care about the kids and I've been impressed with how each child is challenged based on their individual needs. The school has a strong commitment to not only teaching academics, but encourage the kids to be respectful, kind and learn to be 'peace- builders'. The only thing I have been disappointed with has been the fact that kindergarten is only a half day program. This year there has even been a once a week preschool program, which my youngest children have loved attending. With 4 kids, I have not personally volunteered at the school..but I know there is a great volunteer program for parents who have the opportunity to do so.
